My Re-Birthday & Rescueversary!

happyku

Furry Happy and Handsome Me!

‘Twas five years ago

That I was freed from the chain

Bound almost two years

I’ve gained fifty pounds since then

And travelled four thousand miles!

Wooohoooowooooooooo Efurrybuddy! Me and sisfur Nalle and Mamaclickyfingerssecretary were too busy on a hiking adventure to bloggy about this sooner, but two days ago on 1-11 I had my Re-Birthday and Rescueversary! Wooooooooowoooooooooooo! Fur those who do not know my past:

One cold Alaska day five years ago, some strange humans came to see me and my pack of nearly 170 Alaskan Malamutes at a puppy mill in Alaska. They were shocked by what they found – no food, no water, all the snow eaten that we could reach from our four-foot chains, and sadly some deceased members of my pack. The next day on 1-11-11, they came back, removed us from our chains, and took us to a shelter to help us get medical care, food, water, and hopefully real homes! They were true angels that came on that angelic number day!

The dogters in Alaska thought I was about 2 years old based on my teeth and only weighed 35 lbs! Today I weigh about 85 lbs. My furs are no longer brittle and dry, but super duper fluff, fluff, fluff. I have come a furry long way in the past five years, especially when it comes to being social with strange humans. Nobuddy would know now that I was “like a feral wolf” as my Mama says. It is Mama’s magical healing wuvwuvwuv that helped to heal so much!

Lake 22 Kuruk's 4th hike 5.20.11 005

Me in 2011 after my rescue when I was in foster care.

I tell the full story of my healing journey in my bookie: Kuruk: The Little Bear That Could, One Rescue Pup’s Journey of Healing. The purpose of my book about the story of my rescue is to raise awareness about puppy mills and animal abuse. You can order it through Create Space or Amazon (including eBook!) or Barnes & Noble or by clicking the picture of my book cover! Also: Amazon CanadaAmazon UKAmazon India, and other international Amazon stores.

I have moved from Alaska to Washington to Northern California, and now I live in Southern California in a place where I can go to the beach or hike in the mountains efurryday! Wooooowooooooooo! Here are some piccie from our our new home and latest adventures, but scroll through my bloggy to see more or follow Mama’s Instagram here (where she sometimes often posts piccies of Me and Nalle)!

The Blessing of the Animals!

photo-4-4

Grace Cathedral

Me and Nalle sat

And listened to the service

For a whole hour

We had gone to church today

To bless all the animals

Wooooohoooowoooooo Efurrybuddy! In honor of the Feast of Saint Francis yesterday, many churches in the this city named fur Saint Francis had services fur the Blessing of the Animals. That means we went to church! Not just any ol’ church, but the big big beauwooowooootiful Grace Cathedral. We were a little too excited fur Mama to take too many piccies, but if you want to see some pawesome piccies of the cathedral, including it’s beauwoooowoooootiful stained glass, the big labyrinth, and many many murals, clicky on over to our photography bloggy here and here!

Me and Nalle had never been to a church before, nor had we been to a Mass before, but we behaved furry furry good. I paid attention constantly. Nalle laid down on the super coowooowooool stone floor (it’s been up to 90°F/32°C here fur days!), and looked like she wasn’t paying attention, but when the priest asked if anyone was familiar with a certain book about animals, she said: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That made efurrybuddy in the chapel smile and laugh! WOL! Mama had no idea that Nalle was reading so much! Going to therapy pup school has sure paid off fur Nalle! WOL! Here are some piccies:

Happy Happy World Animal Day!

World Animal Day

Is there any other day?

Love is here always

For the love of animals

Is unconditional love

Wooohooooooooowoooooooo Efurrybuddy! Besides World Animal Day, today is also the Feast of Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals. Mama wrote about him and his beauwooowoooootiful prayer on her bloggy. Check it out and listen to the prayer sung by the angelic voice of Susan Boyle here!

Tomorrow Mama is taking us to Grace Cathedral to be blessed fur the Blessing of the Animals in this city of Saint Francis! Me and Nalle will try to pose fur piccies, so stay tuned! Woooooooowooooooooooo!

Me and My Kitty Sisfur…

photo-7My sister Zoe

Missed us all so very much

While off on our trip

Though a great Swami Yogi

She was lonely without us

Eventhough Sisfur Zoe had the Grand Paw and kitty cousin Callie to be with, she missed us so furry furry much while Me and Mama and Nalle were on our trip. I maybe missed my sisfur too. I’ve even asked let her kissie my nose and cheeks and lickie my snout and ears since we got back without a grumble (it tickles!).

I checked out the comfy bed

Got caught in the act

Mama was very surprised

First time I laid on a bed!

Daily Prompt: Full Tanka

Wooohooowooooo Efurrybuddy! Me and Mama and Nalle are on the road! We are traveling around California to explore places we might want to live. Tonight is our first night on the road, and our hotel room had this big big king size bed! I just had to check it out, fur Mama of course! 🙂

I have never, not even once, tried to climb onto Mama’s bed. She is AlphaWolfieMamaBear, and I refuse to challenge her rank in the pack. Mama lets Nalle on the bed fur a wee bit in the evenings when Mama is reading in bed, and she had tried to get me to join her too fur a few minutes of cuddling. But, I will not get on Mama’s bed! However, since we are traveling, technically the beds are not Mama’s, and so I must check them out and make sure they are good fur my Mama! WOL!

I am reminding Mamaclickyfingerssecretary (AlphaWolfieMamaBear’s other identity) to take piccies of our adventures to I can show all of you. Stay tuned…

National Doggie Day!

photo 1-2National Dog Day

We celebrated today

And played at the beach

Lots of sand dollars around

To bring luck to all us hounds

Wooohooowoooooo Efurrybuddy! Today is National Doggie Day and Mama took me and sisfur Nalle to the beach to celebrate! And guess who we ran into?!? Remember when Mama took us to the biggest, pawesomest Snow Pup Paw-ty ever? Well, we ran into Nalle’s boyfurriend Kodiac! Here is a piccie of him kissing Nalle at the Snow Pup Paw-ty:

photo 3-3

After about an hour exploring the beach, Mama took us to a pet store and got us big yumwumwumwumwum braided bully sticks!

photo 2

Me enjoying my bully stick. They did not last furry long. WOL!

At the pet store Nalle was sniff-shopping. Why? Because Saturday the 30th is her birthday! She will be 4 years old, eventhough she wants to be a baby pup furever. WOL! She has her eye on the giant dinosaur-looking bone fur her birthday present. (Hint to Mama!) 😉 Wooooooooooooowooooooooooooo!

Doggie Years…

Storm-2

My Mama with one of the pups from the Sundoggie Ranch!

If you calculate

Mama’s age in doggie years

But do it backwards

Then she is even younger

Than any buddy had guessed!

Woooooowooooooo Efurrybuddy! If you clicky on over to Mama’s bloggy here, you will find out who won Mama’s birthday contest to guess her age. I will tell you that Mama in backwards calculated doggy years is 5.71428571 years young! WOL!

Sisfur Zoe’s Birthday and a Gift for You!

photo 2Most beautiful girl

My sisfur the great swami

And wise yogicat

Looking no older than two

A happy birthday to you!

Wooohoooowoooooo Efurrybuddy! Saturday July 5th is big sisfur Zoe’s 13th birthday! But, she doesn’t look a day older than two, of course! That must be because of her tireless yoga and meditation practice indeed! If you don’t know Swami Zoe, short for the great Shri Swami Sattvapurrrrrananda, clicky on over to her website Swami Zoe’s Yoga and Zen. She has been on an intensive extensive yoga retreat, but she does plan on posting new eternal yoga and zen wisdom soon!

And to celebrate, the most gracious and selfless Swami is offering fur free!!! the e-version of her great book, Daily Yoga for a Happy and Healthy Cat! Click here to download from July 4-8th. If you do not have Kindle, you can also download a Kindle App for free here!

Now efurryone has a great reason to kick off Zoe’s birthday celebration with fireworks tonight! WOL! Happy Birthday Zoe!

Doggie Day Care…

KuDayCare

Me furry scared my first day at day care.

We went to day care

Fur the first time last weekend

I was furry scared

But Nalle stayed by my side

And then I got brave and played

Hewwoooooo Efurrybuddy! This past weekend Me and Nalle went to doggie day care fur both Saturday and Sunday. Mama was working at a Fair and thought it would be best if we had lots of pups to play with all day instead of leaving us alone at home fur hours and hours and hours. We never went to day care before, nor had we ever been without Mama fur such long, long, long treacherous amounts of time. (Before Nalle became my sisfur, Mama once went away fur a couple of days, but I had a cuuwoowooooote babysitter in my own home.)

The first day, Mama talked to us on the drive there, and she told Nalle to watch over me and stay by my side to help me feel less anxious. Here’s what the report card said fur day one:

DayCare1

Nalle listened to Mama!

The second morning, Mama talked to us in the car again, and said I would be more comfortable and will have lots of fun playing with other pups. Here’s the report card fur day two:

DayCare2

Mama was so right!

Day care was not so bad. I would go again, but prefer to be with my Mama. 😀  Wooooooowoooooooooo!

NalleDayCare

Nalle singing her heart out at day care! Wooooooooooooooooo!

In Peace…

07-19-09_0748Good bye Apollo

Rest in peace in rainbow light

Free of suffering

Now you can climb ev’ry tree

And play in gardens all night

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Very comfy and cozy

I’d sleep on it more

But Apollo and Zoe

Think it’s a poofy cat bed!

My First Bloggyversary!

BirthdayKU

Pawty Time!

Blogging fur a year

Can’t believe it’s been that long

Posting my haiku

Thank you all my bloggy friends

Couldn’t do it without you!

Wooooohoooooowooooooooo Efurrybuddy! Can you believe it? I started my bloggy a year ago on April 1st 2013 with my pawticipation in the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo), posting a haiku a day. If I could turn back time, I would do it all again! I was so proud of accomplishing that, that I posted nearly efurryday until February when I went into semi-bloggy retirement. My poetic pup heart can’t stay away from sharing my haiku, but now I also have time to take Mama and sisfur Nalle on new adventures! Wooooowooooooo!

And just in time fur the pawty, Mama surprised me with the announcement that I won some prizes from Miss Jan and the Wag ‘N Woof Pets! Do click on over. They are all fur the love of pets! Wooooowoooooo! How did I win these prizes you ask? Well, Luke, one of the Wag ‘N Woofs was having a contest to see if any buddy could guess his DNA. No one guessed all three breeds, but many were close, and I won the random draw! Woooowoooooooo! I won 2 gift certificates to The Greater Good Animal Rescue Site. It’s a pawesome site where you can buy lots of pawesome stuff fur you or your pawrents, and they help other animals and people in need! I told Mama clicky fingers secretary to use the gift cards to get something fur herself since she works fur me fur free. Mama deserves it! I wuvwuvwuvwuv you Mama!!! Here are all the pawesome prizes me and my furblings got:

Excavating…

photo 5-2

This bone is nothing fur my bone-crushing jaws. I hear dinosaur bones are big big big! I think I will see if I can find some.

An excavation

Archaeological dig

A pup on the hunt

Looking for dinosaur bones

May have to dig to China

Wooohooowooooo Efurrybuddy! I’ve been furry busy in my retirement from being a busy busy author! I’ve been trying lots of new things, and this week on an impulse I decided to become a paleontologist (that’s a dinosaur archaeologist!). I am working furry furry hard on the hunt fur monstrous dinosaur bones. Mama says those may be the only bones strong enough to hold up to my Malamute jaws. Here’s what I have accomplished so far with my intensive labor:

photo 3

Here is dig site number one. No dinosaur bones, but a great place to store my tennis ball!

photo 2

Site number two. This is hopeful. Found some ancient roots over the course of three days of hard hard labor. I will keep digging here fur sure!

photo 1

Site number three got flooded in the rain. Will have to reassess after laboring more at site number two!

Wooooowoooooooo Efurrybuddy! This is one of my in retirement special bloggy posts. And you were all worried you’d never hear from us. 🙂 A couple of weeks ago, Mama heard about a casting call at a local photographer’s, so she took me and Nalle fur Nalle to become a super model just like me! Well, this morning at the coffee shop, we discovered that Nalle made the cut! Wooohooowoooooo! Here’s her modeling debut:

A Pup’s Legacy…

photo 1

Me and Nalle ready to go on new adventures!

It’s time to move on

To do more important things

It’s been lots of fun

As a retired author

I will get to hike lots more!

Daily Prompt: Don’t You Forget About Me

From Mama: Hi everyone and efurryone! Ku has decided to semi-retire from being a writer and blogger. It has been lots of fun, and we will visit all of you once in a while because you have given us so many smiles and giggles. We thank you all for the joy you and your pets have filled in our hearts. Ku wants to have more time to go hiking, and we are all ready for new adventures.

Ku’s and his sisfur Swami Zoe’s books will still be available for purchase to support animal rescue, and the blogs will remain as websites. I spent a good 6 months working to promote them here and in many other ways, and have learned more than I could have imagined about self-publishing (I have other books too, click here), marketing, etc. and especially what does not work. However, the time I have to work to earn money is very limited (as in needing a very flexible or work-at-home schedule) given that I am helping care for my mother, who has Alzheimer’s among other mental issues, and the house. I have here and there found some freelance work (though no one seems to want to pay writers much, if anything).

I have much bigger book projects that I am working on, that are much better candidates for publishers, and am now focusing on building my spiritual counseling/life coaching/healing practice. Both of these things, writing and helping others, is my passion and my greatest skills, and they need as much time as I can give to them now. I will still be around the blogosphere as my main blog, Through the Peacock’s Eyesis the online aspect of all that I have been building over the the past year plus.

If anyone is interested in my services, Astrology, Tarot, and Life Coaching, please click here to find out more.

From Ku: Efurrybuddy, please don’t forget about me, I won’t forget you! I will beg ask Mama clicky-fingers secretary nicely to visit your bloggies from time to time. It’s been lots of fun, but time fur new adventures! Much wuvwuvwuv and woooohooooowooooooooooo! xoxoxo, Kuruk Babybear

p.s. I will occasionally compose a Haiku in my semi-retirement, just not efurryday! Woooowoooooo! 🙂

Working Fur Free…

HandsomeKuWe’ve worked very hard

To promote my pawesome book

To help animals

But sales are barely there

And we are getting poorer

Daily Prompt: Money For Nothing

Hi Efurrybuddy, Me and Mama have been having serious discussions. You see, we are overly giving souls, and have spent hundreds of hours blogging, emailing, going places, and talking to people to market and promote my book to raise awareness and money to donate to animal rescue. We thank those who have bought my book and who have tweeted, re-blogged, etc.!!!

However, sales are so so so so slow (only 7 so far in the last 3 months – and we did print-on-demand self-publishing so royalties are $2 or less per book) that we are considering shutting down. Though we need the money, we have committed to donating 50% of sales. We made our first donation before even covering costs, which we have now just barely done. I told Mama that if this is not going anywhere then we could stop so she could spend more time looking for income and building her spiritual counseling practice (Astrology and Tarot/Oracle Readings – she is furry furry good!), which she juggles around caring fur the Grandma who has Alzheimer’s and doing all the housekeeping fur the Grand Paw.

Sorry fur the sad-ish post, but we are feeling furry discouraged lately and need to re-assess efurrything so that we do not go hungry (this is not an exaggeration either).
