Wooooooowoooooooooo! That’s snow pup singing for Hello! My name is Kuruk, Ku for short. That means Bear in Pawnee – at least that’s what my Mama says. She says I am her Babybear because I will never be as big as a real bear. I was given this name by the nice people who rescued me from a puppy mill in Alaska in January 2011.
My first year or two of life was very tragic and traumatic, but since my Mama adopted me I have healed and overcome a lot. Mama says I was like a feral wolf, but now I love kisses and back rubs! Woooooowo00000oo!
I am still a little shy sometimes, so I was a little nervous about starting a blog and posting my Haiku. I have always thought thoughts in Haiku. I don’t know why. Maybe I was a Japanese Akita in a past life, but in this life I am an Alaskan Malamute. I’m a wooly too, which means I have longer fluffier fur.
Mama is very kind to type everything for me. My paws are too big to type. I seem to press several keys at once. My spelling isn’t very good either since I never went to puppy school. So Mama hears my Haiku when they come (they flow naturally for me at random times) and writes them down. Since I am a pup, I cannot speak like people, but I speak telepathy and Mama can hear that.
As you can tell my Mama is the bestest. Sometimes she kisses me too much though, but I let her because she’s my Mama. I have a snow pup sister named Nalle. That means Bear too. She’s a little younger than me, but she still thinks she’s a baby pup. Nalle is a rescued pup too, but her situation was not a bad one. In Spring 2014 Nalle decided to go to school to become an Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) pup, and now she goes to work as Nurse Nalle! She shares a blog on Mama’s Animal Healing site, which you can check out here. I also have a kitty sister, the great and famous Swami Zoe, who likes to tickle my ears with kisses and licks, and for three years I had a kitty brother, Apollo, the little lion man. RIP my big little brofur!
I hope you enjoy my Haiku, and thank you for visiting. Wooooooowooooooo!

Nice to hear Kuruk has a safe and happy home now. 🙂 The newspaper story about Ku’s breeder was very sad to read.
Thank you Hanzo! I am a very happy happy pup now! Wooooooowoooooooo, Ku
Oh Ku..your mum is indeed an angel…this is such a sad story my sweet little bear…I have volunteered in shelters and to see such wonderful creatures treated so poorly makes me ashamed to be a human..i am so glad you found your mum and you deserve all the best that life has to offer you..my eyes are leaky..i feel such empathy with souls such as yourself..we found out our Forrest aka Fozzie Bear..yes bear or Boo Boo bear was a puppy mill puppy..he has such love for his terrier brother Doc but cannot bear other dogs..being pulled from his mum at such a young age has hurt his social skills and try as we might we cannot change this…apart from this he is a loving boy, loves our cats and all people and on 11 acres he is happy and safe.
Thankyou for popping in to our bloggie..and we will follow yours also..we don’t know much about Haiku but we do know a good soul when we see one..pop in to visit the animals bloggie if you like they also get up to mischief !!!

Aw thank yooowoowooooo Savannah! No Nalle can from a good home, but she just needed a new home. I think we were meant to be furblings though! 🙂 Nose kissies furr yoooowoowooooo!
Puppy mill?! gasp. thank god you’re saved! <33
Thank God indeed! Some of my pack passed away before the puppy mill was raided. 😦
Dear Kuruk, I am so sorry to hear about your tough puppyhood, I myself was born to a feral mom and was rescued at a construction site. It is great that both our forever humans have given us such loving care.
I wanted to ask you about your haiku… I would like to write haiku as I believe it would capture my thoughts the best (this is the longest speech I’ve ever made). Did you learn from a book? What advice would you give me as I begin writing kitty haiku?
Purrs, BuffyCat from 2catsandacattledog.com
Dear BuffyCat, I did not learn from a book. I often think in 17 syllables naturally. I do vaguely remember my Auntiepup in Alaska who did the same thing. Maybe she taught me, or maybe I was born composing haiku. That is why I am pretty sure I must have been a Japanese Akita in a past life. 😀
Like with all things, just keep practicing, and you are welcome to guest post sometime toowoooowoooooo! Just email me and Mama from the “Contact Me” page. NIce to meet you tooowoooowoooooo! Ku
Thank you for your encouragement Ku. I just wrote and posted my first haiku. Maybe as I practice I’ll get good enough to guest post. Purrs, Buffy
I nominated you for Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award Here. And Your other blog too!
Thank youwooowooooooo! Since I’m a boy, I will let Mama take this doubly! 🙂 Nose kissies, xxxxxxx Ku
Ku, I know you are a boy but your Mommy isn’t. And your inclusion in the Sisterhood is an honor – not many boys allowed. 🙂
Woohooooowooooooo! I like girls, they are cute, and sometimes I embarrass Mama by nipping their bottoms! WOL! Thank youwoowoooo, I will try to behave in the sisterhood! 🙂
I just discovered your blog Ku and I love it! It’s great that you are trying to raise awareness about animal rights issues – keep it up! Celeste 🙂
Thank you Miss Celeste! wooooooowooooooo, Ku
Dear Ku,
As your secret admirer, I’ve nominated you for two awards! Please visit my bloggie for the details! http://kolytyi.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/192014/
Oh pup! I have a secret admirer! Woohoooooowooooo!
Lucky Kuruk to live in such ha caring home. Can I ask what Kuruk means?
Kuruk means “bear” in the Pawnee language (North Dakota Native Americans). That’s why I’m Mama’s Babybear! Nalle means “bear”, or “teddy bear”, too but in Suomi (Finnish). We are our MamaBear’s little cubs! Wooooowooooooo!
Thank you, great photos, I enjoyed them of course I’m just a sucker for any dog but one with a smiley face…awwwww they have me for life.
Kuru darling, I read your rescue story in tears, this is the horrific reality of breeders and everyone ought to know the tragedy that takes place inside their pens. You found a spirit healer in your Mum, along your brother and sister –you all bear beautiful names in beautiful languages –no pun intended 🙂
Well, I love Haiku and am very glad to have discovered you unique talent!.
Say hello to your Mummy, thank her for following my blog 🙂
Be well and headbutts a-plenty to all from my three rescued kitties ♥
Thank youwooowoooo Miss Carmen! Yes, my story is sad, but a happy happy ending/new beginning! Nose kissies tooyouwooowooooooo! KuBear
Received in delight, beautiful you ♥
I love a dog with a blog–had to follow. Also love haiku–used to dabble in it myself. Should have tried to make this comment in a haiku–but I’m not that good. I look to you for good stuff–dogs and poetry. 😎
Thank youwooowoooooooooo! Ku 😀
My tail is wagging. I love you KuBear. I saw a cousin of your’s in our county animal shelter and wanted him so much.
But we have a house rabbit and little freak out dog. I keep visiting to be sure the Alaskan Malamute got a second chance and was picked up by a Malamute rescue. We send belly rubs.
Join us this weekend to let people know that 99% of pet store dogs come from puppy mills! YUCK.
